Following the 1945 report by Newman on the utility of Trifluoroacetic Acid (TFA) as a condensing agent for the acylation of anisole with acetic anhydride [1], TFA has found enormous utility in organic synthesis [1-3]. For example, TFA is useful in protecting group removal, as a solvent for radical and polymer processes, oxidations, reductions, and other reactions [2].
